To walk through this park is to enjoy, know and appreciate one of the most important natural heritages of Mexico City, as it is part of a protected natural area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was designed in the late 80s by architect and landscape architect Mario Schjetnan, who was also in charge of its restoration in 2019. Its purpose is to offer a space to walk or run, ride a bicycle, have a picnic or rent a trajinera, as well as to educate in the conservation of the region’s native flora and fauna. In its 145 hectares live more than 200 species, either permanently or seasonally, and there are canals and chinampas to understand how the ancestors farmed with the ancient technique still used by many producers in the area. Its agricultural nature will undoubtedly connect you with the earth’s cycles.
